class="fontColorThemePrimary">Managing change

Although the scope is defined more or less precisely at the beginning of the project, it can evolve due to various changes such as additions, modifications, substitutions or deletions of requirements, as well as the questioning of assumptions.

These changes can be triggered by factors that are external to the scope of the product, but that have an influence on it, such as:

Unavailability of stakeholders

Replacement of interlocutors

New regulations

Budget Restraint

Cyclical impacts

security hazards.

It is important to note that such a change is normal in a complex, uncertain and evolving project, but it is essential to measure the impacts and adopt the right approach.

The project leader should exercise caution in changing the scope and document any changes made during the process, usually via governance body reports and/or a change log.

It should be remembered that the triple constraint applies: any change in the scope can have repercussions on the cost and time of the project, as well as on its objective or
 quality
, especially if it leads to undesirable effects.

In the context of a predictive methodology such as the V-Cycle, where the scope is initially assumed to be largely fixed, unless the change is compensable by a decoping or commercially negotiable, the project manager must:

Revisit the project plan and contract, integrating change management mechanisms.

Qualify and estimate new requirements, while revising those that depend on them.

Submit a new proposal to the client, covering the additional burden.

Update the schedule to account for the induced drift.

Produce an amendment to formalize the change.

Obtain validation of all these elements before their implementation.

In the context of an Agile project, although adaptability to change is inherent in the method, a change is not neutral in consequences.

The Agile project is usually time-bound (e.g., a minimum viable MVP ) and the budget is fixed.

In this context, we will favor a barter system to absorb the change, i.e. the replacement of User Stories by others with the same value in terms of effort and therefore Story Points.

Otherwise, the number of funded sprints can be expanded to absorb the change.
[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

The scope of a project includes its scope, requirements, and change management
